That's how I remember her calling him: more often than necessary, more often than it is prudent, always asking him how he was, did he eat well, what the weather looked like, and a few other questions usually asked when someone is away on business.
Then she hung up the phone, each time more slowly, each time sadder, until finally she started crying.
I understood only that: he must have told her it was cloudy.
